Who Am I?
Let's start with my credentials to get the boring stuff out of the way. I earned my PhD in counselor education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2023. From there, I moved to Arizona to become an assistant professor at NAU, North Valley campus, instructing future counselors. Since I teach counseling, it makes sense for me to keep counseling as well.
I earned my master's in clinical mental health in 2012 from Wilmington University (Delaware- it's a tiny state on the East coast ;-)) From 2012 to 2020 I worked in private practice and day treatment focused on helping those with eating disorders, obessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, body dysmorphia, and general life issues. The LPC behind my name indicates Licensed Professional Counselor.
Along with private practice, I took certification courses from the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) and completed 2500 hours of supervised ED work to earn my Certified Eating Disorder Specialist credential (CEDS). Additionally, I completed 60 hours of coursework from Oxford CREDO to be trained in CBT-E.
Therapists share minimal personal information as this relationship is more about you. However, I believe that knowing a few things about me can help clients feel safer. First, I love running, hiking, trail races, and being outdoors as much as possible. I am the mother of two young adults, and I have been married to my husband for many years. I am an Air Force brat, veteran, and military spouse. My faith in God guides my life, and it is why I embrace all people, believing that everyone deserves love and acceptance. I am an ally and advocate, use she/her pronouns, and strive to promote social justice and equity in my business and profession as an instructor.
- In addition to EDs, my counseling services cover a wide range of issues, including anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem, body image, OCD, PTSD, career issues, trauma, spirituality, gender identity support, LGBT counseling, and other co-occurring issues.
