Who Am I?
Let's start with my credentials to get the boring stuff out of the way. I earned my PhD in counselor education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2023. From there, I moved to Arizona to become an assistant professor at NAU, North Valley campus, instructing future counselors. Since I teach counseling, it makes sense for me to keep counseling as well.
I earned my master's in clinical mental health in 2012 from Wilmington University (Delaware- it's a tiny state on the East coast ;-)) From 2012 to 2020, I worked in private practice and day treatment focused on helping those with eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, body dysmorphia, and general life issues. The LPC behind my name indicates Licensed Professional Counselor.
Along with private practice, I took certification courses from the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) and completed 2500 hours of supervised ED work to earn my Certified Eating Disorder Specialist credential (CEDS). Additionally, I completed 60 hours of coursework from Oxford University's CREDO program to be trained in CBT-E.
Therapists share minimal personal information as this relationship is more about you. However, I believe that knowing a few things about me can help clients feel more at ease. First, I love running, hiking, trail races, and being outdoors as much as possible. I am the mother of two young adults, and I have been married to my husband for many years. I am an Air Force brat, veteran, and military spouse. My faith in God guides my life, and it is why I embrace all people, believing that everyone deserves love and acceptance. I am an ally and advocate, use she/her pronouns, and strive to promote social justice and equity in my business and profession.
- In addition to EDs, my counseling services cover a wide range of issues, including anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem, body image, OCD, PTSD, career issues, trauma, gender identity support, LGBTQIA+ counseling, and multicultural counseling.
